I wish I'd found InterNations sooner: It would have made my first few month as an expat in London much less overwhelming.
Living in Bradford
Bradford, in the North of England, is well known for two things: film and curry. The great news for expatriates living in Bradford is that they can readily get involved with both. The National Media Museum, one of the most popular museums in the UK and the most visited museum outside of London, celebrates film with three cinemas, including an Imax cinema. It also hosts the Bradford International Film Festival annually and went some way to Bradford being designated the world’s first UNESCO City of Film in June 2009. Bradford has also developed a strong Bollywood link, hosting the International Indian Film Festival awards in 2007. This is a nod to Bradford’s other love; curry. Expats in Bradford will find that the city’s broad ethnic mix has created a world-famous reputation, with Bradford being named ‘The Curry Capital of Britain’ in 2013. Expatriates living in Bradford may like to find other expats to share a curry and a film with at InterNations; a global platform that enables expats to connect with each other.

Moving to Bradford
Bradford has been welcoming expatriates from all over the world for centuries and was even recognized as a ‘City of Sanctuary’ in 2010 for this reason. When choosing whereabouts in the city to relocate to, expats moving to Bradford can connect with other expats on the discussion groups and forums at InterNations. Other expats in Bradford may be able to help with housing, apartments, storage or advice on neighborhoods. From an architectural point of view, Bradford has many Victorian buildings. Aside from a large number of mills, there is also the City Hall, with its distinctive clock tower, the former Wool Exchange and St. George’s Hall, the oldest concert hall in Britain. Expats in Bradford will also enjoy the numerous parks and gardens. Whether it’s boating, water features or carnivals, expats moving to Bradford will have a wide choice of outside spaces.
Working in Bradford
Bradford’s history, and growth, is heavily intertwined with textiles. From the Industrial Revolution right up to the mid-20th century, Bradford has manufactured and led innovations in fabrics, at one stage earning the moniker of ‘the wool capital of the world’. Today, while the mills are closed (though Lister’s Mill’s chimney is still in plain view) Bradford has grown a strong business, retail and tourism trade, with a number of large companies having been founded in the city. Expatriates in Bradford can use the discussion groups and forums at InterNations to network with other expats to find information on jobs, visas, finance and other invaluable topics, as well as finding an expatriate friend to go for that curry.
