The university city is a comparatively wealthy city known for its technical university and focus on research — Darmstadt is home to two European space operations and exploitation institutions as well as the Center for Heavy Ion Research — but also for its Jugendstil architecture, rich cultural heritage, and much more! With the comprehensive network of tram and bus lines, as well as connections to the wider Frankfurt suburban train system (S-Bahn), navigating your way around the city from one place to the next is simple. This also means that if you don’t want to live among the hustle and bustle of the center, you can enjoy a quieter life in nearby villages such as Erzhausen or Egelsbach, which are (thanks to their S-Bahn stations) only a short commute away from Darmstadt’s center.
