Selin: Fashion And Gourmet

In our InterNations Recommended Blog section we let you take the spotlight! Expat life in general is, of course, a perfect breeding ground for great, user-generated reads, and life in Doha makes no exception. Take your time and browse the great blogs showcased in this article!

Please tell us a little bit about yourself. Who you are, where you come from, when you moved to Doha, etc.

I am Turkish, 28 years old; part qualified accountant and moved to Doha on 24th of March.

When and why did you decide to start blogging about your experiences?

I decided when I see the great potential of Qatar that has so many things to experience and share. That’s why I start blogging straight away.

Do you have any favorite blog entries of yours?

I love to eat and try different type of dishes. Shakespeare is one my favorite posts, Dean and Deluca as well.

Tell us about the ways your new life in Doha differs from that back home. Did you have trouble getting used to the new circumstances? Did you experience culture shock?

No. I haven’t experienced a culture shock. I am so busy right now with all things going on in city. New restaurants, nightclubs, bars, activities. Actually I did not have time to worry about anything.

Do you think you were fully prepared for what awaited you in Doha? If you could, would you change some decisions/preparations you made?

I am experienced about Middle East culture as I have lived 5 years in Oman.

Every expat knows that expat life comes with some hilarious anecdotes and funny experiences. Care to share one with us?

I don’t have funny ones actually. It’s just sad to say that I had so many traffic penalties because of the speed. I was not used to the radars.

Which three tips would you like to give future expats before they embark on their new life in Doha?

How is the expat community in Doha? Did you have a hard time finding like-minded people or fellow expats?

Actually I am working full time from 7am to 6 pm. I can’t say I`m social outside of the work. I work with expats nearly 90% and it’s good to share ideas and to go through the same experience.

How would you summarize your expat life in Doha in a single, catchy sentence?

Life in Doha is so elegant, active, and peaceful.
