Starting Your Expat Adventure in Kiribati

The Republic of Kiribati is a small archipelago in the central Pacific Ocean. The island nation consists of four groups of islands and 33 atolls, and it’s home to just over 110,000 people. For many people, the quiet and relaxing way of life in Kiribati is perfect and a great escape from the modern world. Since gaining independence from the United Kingdom in 1979, Kiribati has struggled to make progress economically. The island’s economy is dominated by the fishing industry and Copra exports, while tourism also accounts for roughly 20% of the total GDP. In recent times, Kiribati has stirred great interest among the expat community. This has come in the wake of new initiatives to create a good business environment and to generate economic growth.
