Jakarta International School (JIS) is a private international school serving largely children of expatriates from 60 nationalities and with a highly qualified faculty representing over 20 nationalities. It is Jakarta’s truly International School – with a bold focus on student learning, a truly international perspective that reaches beyond any single national curriculum or perspective, and that was founded jointly the American, British, Australian and the former Yugoslavian embassies in Jakarta.
Founded in 1951 and now enrolling close to 2400 students, the school draws on North American and “best practice” curriculum models across the globe from Early Childhood through Grade 12. The International Baccalaureate Diploma and Advanced Placement courses are offered and almost all students go on to attend top universities or colleges worldwide. In general, the curriculum offered has an international focus and the language of instruction is English.

The School’s focus is captured in its Identity Statement: “Jakarta International School students achieve personal excellence to be the best for the world. As a caring community we collaborate to continuously strengthen student learning and increasingly demonstrate the Essential Qualities of JIS Learners. Throughout the world we contribute as Responsible World Citizens who are Effective Communicators, Collaborative Workers, Problem Solvers, Creative Individuals, and Self-Directed, Positive and Adaptable Learners.”
A broad and diverse co-curricular program offers students a balanced and rich activities, service learning, travel and athletics program at every level. For cultural, athletic and academic tournaments and events, the school is part of the Interscholastic Association of Southeast Asian Schools (IASAS) which is comprised of the International School of Kuala Lumpur, International School of Bangkok, International School of Manila, Taipei American School and Singapore American School.
JIS also runs an after-school and holiday educational program for adults and children called JIS Academy. This program is open to all residents of Jakarta on a registration and fee-basis.

The School is established under Indonesian law, which gives it the status of a non-profit foundation (Yayasan).

JIS is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the Council of International Schools.
