Hello to all Americans in Utrecht! Are you interested in getting to know fellow expats in Utrecht? There’s no doubt about it: Utrecht is more than just an important transportation hub. The capital of the Utrecht province is a university city known for its central position in the Netherlands and the corresponding connections to the rest of the country, but also for its status as the main religious center, the relaxed lifestyle, a famed cafe culture, and much more! With the available suburban trains (sneltram) and local buses as well as a very bike-friendly city layout, navigating your way around the city from one place to the next is simple. This also means that if you don’t want to live among the hustle and bustle of the center, you can enjoy a quieter life in neighborhoods to the east (e.g. Oudwijk, Wittevrouwen) or northeast (e.g. Tuindorp, Vogelenbuurt, Tuinwijk), which are less than a 10-minute bike ride away from Utrecht’s center.
