Your New Life in Warsaw

If you plan to work in Warsaw, you'll be pleased to know that the economy has been growing strongly in recent years. The services sector employs the majority of workers, and as a capital city there are career opportunities in the thriving tourism industry. If you plan to work face to face with the public you'll need a good understanding of Polish, and it would be beneficial to know some German, too, as spoken by the older generations. There are exceptions to those needing work permits, so make sure you look at our guide on working in Poland to find out if you qualify. When dining out, you'll find all your favorite international cuisine, from Sushi to Italian, but maybe you'd like to develop a taste for traditional, hearty Polish fare, too. The filled parcels known as Pierogi are firm favorites, as is the national dish, Bigos; a meat and vegetable stew. Traditional meals are typically made up of meat, vegetables, mushrooms and sausages, particularly good during those chilly Polish winters. To learn about the history of your new home, the Warsaw Uprising Museum tells the story of one of the most significant events to hit the capital during WW2, and there's a rich variety of culture to discover including Chopin's Warsaw Museum, the incredible Science Museum, and of course, Wilanow Palace standing at the end of the Royal Route. All of these sights will become familiar landmarks to you as you create your new life.
