Living in Salisbury

Salisbury is one of the great historic English cathedral cities. The presence of a cathedral's spire was for hundreds of years a traditional English sign of city status and, despite only being home to around 40,000 people, Salisbury cathedral has the tallest spire in the country. The current city, first called the 'City of New Sarum', is eight hundred years old but a few miles are the remains of the Old Sarum, which makes a great trip out of town for any expats living in Salisbury with an interest in history (and perhaps a bike). As well as the cathedral, the Salisbury and South Wiltshire Museum is a great place for expatriates in Salisbury to get a feel of the city's culture and long history. However, it is by walking through the old streets, having a pint in a local pub and trying to work out why all the shops seem to close at five o'clock in the evening that expats living in Salisbury will really get to know the city.
