Cost of electricty and rental information (Abu Dhabi)

We are still wondering if our package is good enough for us to live comfortably and save a little while living in AD. My husband was told that electricity can cost as much as $1,000 USD per/month. Is this true? Seems outrageously expensive. Also, is it true that when you rent in AD, you are responsible for all repairs that the home might need while you live there and getting all the appliances. Again, seems a little odd to me, but it might just be how it's done there. Thanks for any information you have!!
