Everyone in the Arab world knows 'Mawlana', Ibrahim Eissa's bestseller novel from Protected content , which has now also become a huge hit as a movie. Understandably, for the rest, because it contains both excitement, humor, controversy and eggs for debate.
It is about the religious preacher Hatem, who becomes a talk show host and squeezes between his earthly, tolerant interpretation of the Quran and more conservative state and religious forces. His family is divided by the pressure, an agitated crowd attacks one of Hatem's teachers, and is pressed for hatred sermons: The faith of the young sermon is being tested to the utmost. The main role of the young sheikh, which must both fight corruption and religious hypocrisy, is played strongly by Amr Saad.
Ibrahim Eissa is an Egyptian journalist and author and for a decade he has fought against censorship. "Few Arabic films have dared to confront the scary interaction between government and Islam as fearless as 'The Preacher,' wrote the Hollywood Reporter at the film's international premiere.
