Father Rhine: flood protection measures in Cologne
The lecture will be given in German.
A lot of water flows down the Rhine, and this is also a good thing: for shipping, local residents, drinking water supplies and energy production. But what happens when too much water flows down the Rhine? What are the causes and what specific flood protection measures will be taken in an emergency? Who coordinates the activities as well as the operational forces and what should citizens know when a flood comes?
Professor Dr. Jokiel and Volker Lüdicke report on the benefits of the river Rhine and how structural, operational and organizational measures protect the city of Cologne from floods.
