"Swan Lake" - Ballet Nacional de Cuba.
SWAN LAKE, Alicia Alonso's version.
What is it? - It's a classical dance masterpiece. For dancers and dance lovers (like you) it belongs to what we call "repertoire". Repertoire is the basic group of choreographies a ballet dancer should learn during his/her Conservatory period til winning his/her BA.
Does this mean that all "Swan Lake" versions I would ever see are all the same? BASICALLY YES. OMG! Yeah, oh your God.
What's the point of watching repertoire? What scores in classic dance is virtuosism, perfect technique. So you know what are you going to see (with small variations) in advance, you are awaiting for the dancers to get you emotional through their abilities. "Mmmh, that's difficult to understand for regular public..." yes, I know. Just seat down and enjoy. I will be there and we could discuss before and after about it if you want to go deeper into it.
The BALLET NACIONAL DE CUBA is under the direction of Alicia Alonso, Prima Ballerina Assolutta and recently winner of "Estrella del Siglo" award in Havana. The School of Cuba is a particular way of performing, a bit different from the English, the Russian, etc. This is the perfect chance to learn about dance while letting be mesmerized by one of the best companies of the world.
