Hiking Above The Clouds
"Just north of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, Mount Tamalpais State Park rises majestically from the heart of Marin County. Its deep canyons and sweeping hillsides are cloaked with cool redwood forests, oak woodlands, open grasslands, and sturdy chaparral. The park offers superlative hiking, picnicking, wildlife watching."
Experience Mount Tamalpais magic pure by hiking one of the wildest trails in the Park: The Cataract Falls - Potrero Meadows Loop. You'll experience dense forests, aromatic chaparral, rushing creeks, waterfalls, flower-dotted meadows and even some long distance vistas of Marin County, North Bay, the City and the Pacific. About 6.5 miles in its entirety, we have cut it down somewhat to about 4.5 miles to make it easier and safer for a larger group by avoiding the steep and rocky parts. So it is an easy to moderate hike of about 3 hours.
We will meet at the Protected content
NOTE: there is no or limited cell phone or internet service near or in the park, so getting your "act together" ahead of time is essential!!
Also, please try to car pool as usual. The fewer cars the easier it will be to find parking and on the environment. Drivers and riders please post on the board.
As usual we will have our International Picnic, whereby everybody brings their own lunch and refreshments and perhaps a dish from their home or favorite country to share with the group. Please bring enough water and other beverages of your choice to hydrate. There is a large picnic area about an hour into the hike near the Cataract Falls which can be explored from there for photo opps. However, we will not descend all the way down the Cataract trail, since it is very steep and strenuous and can be dangerous.
