Sunday Opera Afternoons - Once a month

Come and watch the DVD recording of this popular operetta performed by the Semper Opera in Dresden in Protected content . An operetta has spoken parts and is usually light hearted. It is sung and spoken in German with English subtitles.

The Pontevedrian embassy in Paris is celebrating the Prince’s birthday. Hanna Glawari was left a very rich widow by the death of her husband. Her 50 million is essential for the Pontevedrian economy. The Ambassador is given the task of making sure that she does not marry a Frenchman and he is looking for a suitable husband for her. His choice is Count Danilo Danilowitsch, but he was in love with her before her marriage and this gives complications.

Gunter Emmerlich, Bo Skovus and Petra Maria Schnitzer sing and speak the parts of the Ambassador, the Count and Hanna.
The music has many melodies which go well with the comedy of the performance. It lasts for 2 hours and 20 minutes. The Staatskapelle Dresden is conducted by Manfred Honeck.

We shall have a break in the middle and you will get a copy of the story.
