Leonardo da Vinci’s “briglie” and Semifonte
Dear all ,
this is a ring route and will take us to visit the wonderful typical Tuscan territories of Barberino val d'Elsa. Following the course of the Agliena river we will observe “ le Briglie”, hydraulic work designed by Leonardo da Vinci and described in the Hammer code. Then the route will lead us to the city of Semifonte which was completely destroyed by Florence in Protected content nothing could be rebuilt in that place except for a chapel which reproduces the dome of the Florentine Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. We will reach the small source of Santa Caterina half hidden in the woods and then Petrognano to finally return to Barberino.Characteristics of the hiking trail:
Total length: about 14 km . Total climb altitude: about Protected content Protected content
Difficulty level: Medium . Actual travel time (without stops): Approximately 5 hours . Duration: daytrip (packed lunch by the participants . COMPULSORY Equipment: Hiking boots with carved sole,clothing suitable for the season and weather condition,water supply (1.5 liters minimum) and packed lunch.
Recommended gear: hiking poles,camera. Minimum participants required : 8 people. We will be together with an english speaking guide, who will explain more about the history, the flora and the geology that characterize the area we've visiting.
