A Political Economy of the Arab Uprisings
An anatomy of the political economy of Middle Eastern countries in relation to the wave of uprisings that broke out in late Protected content still continues to unfold. The discussion will follow a three-dimensional approach: the political, the economic, and the social; explaining how each influences the other and how together they brought an ongoing regional unrest in.
About the lecturer:
Dr Maher Hamoud is a a postdoctoral researcher of political economy at Ghent University, Belgium. His research is focused on political economy of oil, political economy of media, and EU-Middle East relations. He is also a former editor-in-chief of the Cairo-based Daily News Egypt and the author of Chocolate Filling: Notes from Under the Belgian Crust.
