A Trapped Butterfly
Elizabeth has very kindly offered to present an interesting book that she has just read: Masako, La Mariposa Atrapada, by Martin Fritz and Yoko Kobayashi - a biography of Masako, the Crown Princess of Japan. The mention of a butterfly evokes grace and fragility, and may be an intentional reference to Madam Butterfly by Puccini. The ropics for discussion are many - court environment, and how it can trap and damage a commoner, especially a woman; cultural differences between Japan and the West; and more.
