Dinner with Churchill
Everyone has heard about Churchill, and there are many books about him - we discussed one some time ago (about his friendship with FDR). This book by Cita Stelzer is different - it is the first one to look at Churchill's dinners with colleagues, opponents and allies as tools for people management and policy-making. The book is very readable, it includes details not just about high level policy decisions but also about food, drinks (it shows that Churchill drank less than people think....) and of course the personalities of Churchill's dining companions. We'll discuss, as usual, the book but also and especially the book's subject - Churchill, and our perceptions of him from what we have heard and read.
