Kipling the Poet
Many people have read something by Kipling, or at least have heard some quotes, some of them controversial: the white man's burden, the female of the species, oh East is East and West is West.... and so on. But Kipling, as he stated in one of his poems, had two sides to his head, not one: and his poems paint a more interesting and variegated landscape than one would expect. They can be read online, for example at Protected content . I would recommend Helen All Alone, Cold Iron, Recessional, The Ballad of East and West, Hymn To Physical Pain, and of course If - a most un-Christian poem. And I will circulate a fragment of a tragedy, which is not well known but is interesting and puzzling.
