OK, this is not "bold, unconventional" librarians - it is badass, an interesting tile which I like but was find wanting by the NYT reviewers. Anyway - it is about the true story of how the librarians in Timbuktu managed to save from possible destruction by ISIS an invaluable set of ancient manuscripts. When here in the West there is an increasing talk of censorship, it is worth remembering that very many books have not reached us, for many reasons - and this is also a key feature in the plot of The Name of the Rose, by Umberto Eco. An interesting topic for a book club. I'll add something that Mark Twain had to say about it, but I'll leave that to the meeting.
