English Stand Up Comedy Special Showcase
English Stand-up Poland is celebrating it's birthday. We don't really know which one so there won't be candles. They will be torches. Fiery torches of doom, gloom and death. And comedy. Probably we should just write about the comedy. If the room goes in flames they will probably look at this as evidence against us. We promise we won't burn up the place. Only your hearts. We will burn your hearts with laughter. And then the place:)
Why are we doing this now? Because we are growing. English stand-up Poland will have 5 new faces. 5 new regular comedians performing together. Who are they? What do they do?
Originating from Toronto, Canada, Obata Oriuwa who goes by the stage name “Obie” will be taking to the stage yet again in Warsaw. Having gotten his start in the budding English comedy scene here in Warsaw Obie brings a dynamic perspective of comedy, drawing from his life experiences growing up in an African-Canadian household in the sprawling suburbs of Toronto. Showing his skills as a natural storyteller, Obie brings his adaptive style and wit to the stage, ready to share laughs with the crowd.
Christine Skobe is standup comic/human disaster based in Warsaw, Poland. From the mean streets of (a small town near) Toronto, Canada, Christine’s life is Poland can be summed up in three words: crying, confusion and kielbasa. A staple of the English Standup Scene in Poland for almost a year now, when Christine isn’t spending her free time getting in fights online with people who think the fourth season of Battlestar Galactica was too “out there”, she can be found travelling, taking photos and doing other basic white girl things. She has performed in Wroclaw, Berlin and at the Krakow Fringe Festival with her standup show “Our So-Called Lives”. This year she is set to add Brno and Katowice to her list of cities in which she’s fallen down while walking on a sidewalk and also performed standup comedy.
A man who catches fish just to let them go, a man who has what it takes to be the next Prime Minster of Canada, but chooses to tell mediocre jokes instead, it's your favourite Canuck, Christopher Mazur.
Ravi comes from India but Warsaw adopted him and now he is a chronic zapiekanka addict. He co-founded Improv.pl, Warsaw's first English improv theater and performed in more than Protected content . Last year his focus shifted to stand up comedy because there's lot of competition in teaching yoga now.
Having spent 12 years of his life in England, Andre Sosnowski has had quite a lot of time and opportunities to commit a rather decent amount of mistakes. So many, in fact, that he had to return to his homeland of Poland, where he continues his steady decline into madness and despair. Luckily he's funny enough to make you laugh rather than feel sorry for him. He also has a moustache under his impressive nose.
The show will be hosted by the brotherly dynamic duo and co-founders of English Stand Up Poland - Kris and Pete Szumowski!
