#IranianHomeCinema 1 "Taste of Cherry" by Abbas Kiarostami
TASTE OF CHERRY (TA'M-E GILAS)
1997, 99 min., Farsi with English subtitles
Kiarostami’s fantastic meditation on mortality and life was co-winner (with Imamura’s The Eel) of the Protected content d’Or at Cannes, and many critics include it as one of the greatest films of the 90's.
Kiarostami offers simple and profound film with protagonist Badii, a man who wants to commit suicide and is searching for someone who will bury him afterward. Or pull him out should he lose his nerve at the last minute.
Both road movie and philosophical reflection, every moment of Taste of Cherry stares unblinkingly at the wings of death but also celebrates life's simple pleasures.
