Let's try again to kayak and picnic at the beautiful Ipswich River.

We will be exploring the stretch of river that runs through the National Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary, scenic wetlands, and Bradley Palmer State Park and Willowdale State Forest! If you are a bird lover, bring your binoculars. Egrets and Great Blue Herons are common sightings.

The plan is to kayak the Salem Run. The vendor will shuttle us and kayak rentals from the drop-off point at Salem Road in Topsfield, and we will paddle, downstream all the way back to the rental place.

This popular trip takes about four hours. Please note that we would be paddling downstream and plan to break for a picnic half-way through the trip. There are lots of places in which we could stop along the way, anchor our kayaks, so we can rest and picnic.

Kayak rentals are $45 plus tax for this trip. You must call the vendor directly at Protected content make your reservation. You will be asked to make a $10 deposit per kayak reservation. If you prefer to canoe, canoes are also available for rental.

* PFD’s (Personal Floatation Devices, or lifejackets) are required for every person in a canoe per law and included in the rental.

Please be aware that this is a very popular venue and rentals often sell out. If you are seriously interested in joining this event, I strongly recommend that you make your kayak reservation a as soon as possible so you do not miss out on this activity.
