'Au coeur du Levant' (In the heart of the Levant)

Levant was a transit area for itinerant nomads and caravans in the Middle-East. The trade routes ensured many cultural encounters. Historically these regions were called so poetically 'Levant'; 'The land where the sun rises'.
It was a vast, wonderfully state-bound, unrestricted region.

The same cultural encounter and the same "framework" is an essential element in the works of the artists Anat Ratzabi and Fathel Neema, who exhibit at the Voorhoutgalerie from 19 May to 12 June.
Both artists transcend the 'swamp of conflicts' and take us into the stories, traditions, customs and cultures of their birthplace the Levant in which the Dutch-Western environment and current affairs are of influence on their images, installations, paintings, graphics and work of mixed techniques. (from an interview Wim van Cleef)
