balkanFILMtage: SIN / THE SON, Bosnia and Herzegovina, 2019
Emotional worlds in turmoil: adopted son Arman is angry. His biological mother abandoned him. It would be better for everyone if he just died, he screams at his adoptive parents. They don't know what to do. He skips school, takes drugs and plays around with weapons. As such the eighteen-year-old is anything but a positive role model for his fourteen-year-old "brother" Dado.
Alongside universal issues such as the generation gap he experiences between himself and his adoptive parents, Arman is further burdened by the trauma of war endured by older generations as well as their expectations of a better post-war period. Being a teenager is hard enough for an adopted child, and even more difficult when he/she lives in a country that has yet come to terms with its past and is faced with an uncertain future.
