Hi Hi Hi movie friends!!

Do you like documentaries? Do you like music? Are you as curious and riveted by North Korea as I am? If your answer to any of those questions is yes or you just want to watch a documentary to understand North Korea through its music, please join for SONGS FROM THE NORTH By YOON Soon-Mi at the National Gallery Singapore.

South Korea, USA, Portugal | English and Korean with English subtitles | Protected content 73 min | PG
"Songs From the North is an essay film that turns its gaze upon the people of North Korea, a country typically seen through the lens of derisive satire and jingoistic propaganda. South Korean director Soon-Mi Yoo interweaves footage of her visits to North Korea with its music, mass spectacles, popular cinema, paintings and historical archives, seeking to understand the national psyche and coping mechanisms from their perspective. Her penetrating explorations offer a rare glimpse into the political ideology of absolute love for Leader and Party which continues to drive the nation towards its uncertain future."

NOTE: This is an open showing, so anyone can come and go as they please and essentially there is no limit to the # of attendees. But please understand we organize in the spirit of light socializing, so you get to know a few new faces and enjoy the movie together rather than watching it alone (and secretly sad). So, if you change your plan and decide not to show, PLEASE UPDATE YOUR RSVP STATUS IN ADVANCE, so we don't linger for you. If you'd like to bring a non-member, we highly recommend to have him/her sign up for Internations and RSVP for the activity. Thank you!
