Dear Light Seekers,

This great photographic exhibition depicts covers the historical period from the harsh reconstruction of the country after the devastation of the Second World War to the resounding boom economic of the 60s. The images of the time, coming from extraordinary archives, represent a collective portrait of Italy with its hopes, its achievements, its progress without hiding the many unsolved problems, injustices, inequalities.
Many of these photos are taken by the "image workers" of the era of illustrated weeklies: obscure agency photographers, but able to represent in a lively, acute and precise way the multiple realities of the country. Artists often anonymous, that the exhibition itinerary puts alongside and in comparison with well-known and acclaimed signatures of contemporary photography, Italian and foreign authors in an era in which Italy is discovered and actively visited by the great international photographers, also due to the influence of great neorealist cinema and that irresistible phenomenon that became the studios of Cinecittà, the Hollywood on the Tiber . So we will find shots of the likes of Gianni Berengo Gardin , Fulvio Roiter , Cecilia Mangini , Federico Patellani , < strong> Caio Mario Garrubba , Pepi Merisio , Wanda Wultz , Tazio Secchiaroli , Ferruccio Leiss , Romano Cagnoni , Walter Mori , Bruno Munari , Italo Insolera , Italo Zannier , and among the foreigners the great Willian Klein , Alfred Eisenstaedt , Gordon Parks .

The exhibition covers 15 years in which a destroyed and exhausted country managed to overcome the traumas of the war, giving life to a tumultuous economic, social, imaginary development, admired throughout the world. An unrepeatable, exciting and contradictory moment, a story so intense as to be still a relevant legacy of our present. "Overtaking" a reference to a film-icon of an era, a memorable synthesis of the journey of Italy of the time is the extraordinary story in images of a country when entering forever into modernity. Political life and private life, labor struggles and custom revolutions, the construction of motorways and that of cinema and TV imagery, the change of landscape, shapes, the face of a country as it had not been for centuries. It is the idea of Italy that accelerates and gains positions - even with traits of aggression, vulgarity and vainglory - that surpasses its archaic and backward traits, going forward despite huge problems that often leaves unresolved, or that are generated by the same forms of a fast, and voracious development. It is a rich exhibition itinerary that crosses the recent Italian history, starting from the end of the Second World War.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Olivija Douris (Host for this extraordinary event!)
