Free Jazz X MSC: Mali Hayes, Jude The Obscure, Lehin, MSC RES
Band on the Wall presents Free Jazz – a free-entry event showcasing some of the most exciting new artists pushing genre boundaries, playing jazz, electronic, hip-hop, funk, soul and experimental sounds. This edition is curated with Manchester’s own MSC, featuring live sets from Mali Hayes, Jude the Obscure and Lehin, plus MSC Resident DJs.
One of Manchester’s most exciting up and coming artists takes the form of jazz/neo-soul singer Mali Hayes. Her vocal abilities allow her music to move from more acoustic wistful jazz to funk driven hard neo-soul. Having been personally endorsed by names such as Gilles Peterson and Jamie Cullum, and being attached to Peterson’s future bubblers project, an opportunity to see Mali with her full band on the sacred stage Band on the Wall is not one to be missed.
Jude the Obscure
Bursting onto Manchester’s scene in Protected content , Jude the Obscure has spent years refining his sound and has formed a group that together sound stunning. Harnessing both powerful vocal abilities and adept spoken word skills Jude is able to move between contemporary soul/RnB to jazz/hip-hop with ease.
Prominent in Manchester’s bustling jazz-influenced live hip-hop scene is British-Nigerian artist Lehin. Both a skilled producer and songwriter, Lehin has also worked hard to get together a live act with a tight ensemble.
