Open Banking – Opportunities and threats

The finance industry is discussing open banking initiatives as PSD2 becomes mandatory. Banks are asking themselves how they can best use it to their benefit as start-ups rush into the space trying to claim their piece of the pie. Cooperation becomes necessary in order to truly leverage the potential of open banking, but what are the implications for incumbents and challengers?

Benedikt will discuss the trend of digitalization that led to today´s form of open banking, some cases that have appeared in recent years, and try to assess opportunities and threats from the bank’s perspective. When looking at the Raisin case, we can analyze how a successful cooperation between a startup and banks can look like and what benefits a European-wide harmonization of the regulatory environment can bring.
