Strasbourg: the Imperial City
Not sure you heard the news while on holidays, but a couple of months ago the NEUSTADT in Strasbourg was classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO (“la Grande Ile” – Strasbourg old city centre - had already been classified back in Protected content .
The Neustadt (in German, the new city) is the part of the city of Strasbourg constructed by the Germans during their occupation between Protected content . For this new capital of the Empire (Alsace-Lorraine), the emperor wanted to display the excellence of the German knowledge regarding architecture, urbanism and engineering. They succeed in creating the best living conditions for that era.
To celebrate this, let’s take a stroll around this neighbourhood and explore its vast boulevards, its majestic public buildings, and its architecture influenced by both cultures. The possibilities for the photos are immense: we could shoot details of the buildings or try to register their grandiosity; shoot in B&W, etc.
See you there!
