INDONESIAN 🇮🇩 A Country full of Life

Protected content

The name Indonesia derives from the Greek name of the Indós (Ἰνδός) and the word nèsos (νῆσος), meaning "Indian islands". The country is situated between the Indian and Pacific oceans and it is the world's largest island country, with more than seventeen thousand islands.

Indonesia is the world's 14th-largest country in terms of land area and world's 7th-largest country in terms of combined sea and land area. It has an estimated population of over Protected content people and is the world's fourth most populous country. Indonesia's economy is the world's 16th largest by nominal GDP and the 7th largest by GDP at PPP. Forests cover approximately 60% of the country. More than Protected content languages are spoken in Indonesia's numerous islands.

Indonesia is a rich country with more than Protected content groups. Each of them has its own art, architecture and housing, cuisine, traditional dress, festivals, music, dance, tradition, ritual, myths, philosophy of life, even language. The cultural identities developed over centuries, and influenced by Indian, Arabic, Chinese, and European sources, resulting in many cultural practices being strongly influenced by a multitude of religions, including Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Islam and Christianity.

The Pasar Hamburg, which is held once a year, is organized as a non-profit organization by the Indonesian-German Cultural Exchange Association, IDKA e.V., as well as by privately and independently organizations.

An annual theme makes the Pasar Hamburg a colorful mixture of the products of the intellectual and artistic creativity of Indonesia, from classical and traditional to modern art. With a year-to-year growing number of visitors of around 10,000, Pasar Hamburg is the largest Indonesian event in the German-speaking countries.

On a single weekend on the Pasar Hamburg a varied program is offered, e.g. Concerts, dances, fashion shows, book reviews and discussions on all sorts of literature, a discussion forum, photo and art exhibitions, film screenings, workshops as well as a children's program for playing and learning. Art and culinary delights as well as book galleries are the main focus at Pasar Hamburg. This event also enables different regions of Indonesia to present their potential.

Please kindly be on time in which we enjoy discovering this event and amazing culture and art of this country together.
