It was founded by the Basque Luis Urcola and the Catalan José Espinach. Its name is explained by a story, almost an urban legend, which says that in the Protected content the tango poet Alberto Vacarezza was an habitué at the restaurant, who used to sit at a table to write his quatrains. Due to this particularity, customers would have begun to call the place by its current name "La Casa de Las Cuartetas".
