National Theatre Live Production of 'Yerma'
Enjoy a London production from the comfort of a Helsinki movie theatre. Finnkino now offers full-screen videos of performances recorded at various London theatres. If you've never experienced one of these shows, you owe it to yourself to give it a try.
This month's featured production is 'Yerma', Billie Piper's portrayal of a woman in her thirties desperate to conceive. Here is how one reviewer rated the London production at the Young Vic Theatre:
"The incredible Billie Piper (Penny Dreadful, Great Britain) returns in her award-winning role. A young woman is driven to the unthinkable by her desperate desire to have a child in Simon Stone’s radical production of Lorca’s achingly powerful masterpiece. The unmissable theatre phenomenon sold out at the Young Vic Theatre and critics call it ‘an extraordinary theatrical triumph’ (The Times) and ‘stunning, searing, unmissable’ (Mail on Sunday). Billie Piper’s lead performance is described as ‘spellbinding’ (The Evening Standard), ‘astonishing’ (iNews) and ‘devastatingly powerful’ (The Daily Telegraph). Set in contemporary London, the production builds with elemental force to a staggering, shocking, climax.
Unlike some other National Theatre Live performances, this one does not have an interval and lasts for about 2 hours. The dialogue and subtitles are both In English. Please note that the performance of 'Yerma' includes strobe lighting.
You are welcome to join us after the performance for some socializing at a nearby pub.
