Tales from the Land of the Thunder Dragon - part 2
In November I had the opportunity to explore Bhutan, a Buddhist kingdom tucked away between China and India on the Himalayas’ eastern edge that is known for its monasteries, fortresses, dramatic landscapes that range from subtropical plains to steep mountains, and last but not least its innovative Gross National Happiness Index.
Bhutan isn't exactly a backpackers destination. The isolated country only opened to foreigners in Protected content most visitors still cannot travel independently in the kingdom but have to go through an officially approved tour agency. Conscious of the impact mass tourism can have, the number of tourist visa that Bhutan hands out every year are also limited.
