Have you ever wanted to learn how to sail? Here is your chance to take the first step in a comfortable setting among fellow Internations members. Learn how to sail over a weekend full of sailing theory, practice and lots of fun. By the end of the weekend, you will have learned & practiced all the essentials to sail a small boat.

We will leave Cologne/Düsseldorf on Friday evening after work and drive to the Netherlands. We will stay at a villa/house for the weekend where you will share a room with other participant/s. After dinner in our accomodation we will have the first theory session on Friday evening. Following the breakfast on Saturday we will proceed to the boats and start the practical training. There will only be three students per each sailboat along with an instructor so that each of you have ample opportunities to practice the maneuvers. We will do a lunch break in the marina and keep on sailing in the afternoon. The schedule will repeat itself the next day and we will get back home on Sunday evening with lots of sailing knowledge and unforgettable memories of a fun weekend.

Over the course of the weekend, you will get a total of 16 hours of instruction, namely; 4 hours of theory lessons (2 hours per evening) and 12 hours of practical training (6 hours per day). The training will equip you with an understanding of the wind, sailing terminology, parts of the sailboat, boat preparation, points of sail, maneuvers, leaving and returning to the dock, right of way and safety measures. Your instructors for the weekend will be Claudia Haman and Enis Izmiroglu with a combined sailing experience of 45 years. No worries. You will be in good hands;)

The attendants will get a certificate of participation at the end of the event. This would not substitute an official licence but the practical knowledge gained throughout the weekend would be relevant if you want to take an official exam at a later point. The good news is that you don’t need an official licence to rent and sail most small boats with small engines in Germany and the Netherlands.

We may need to postpone the event if there is a thunderstorm that would make it dangerous to sail. In any other weather condition including rain, the event will take place as scheduled.
Reserve your calendars for the weekend for now. We will confirm the trip if we have at least five participants who register & pay the contribution fee.
