BlacKkKlansman - true-life drama, comedy, political alarm bell!
A warm hello to all film enthusiasts!
In August I’d like to invite you all to a film by a director who needs no introduction, well, to many of us, I hope😊
Spike Lee is his name, and as many of his previous films, also “BlacKkKlansman” is concerned with socio-political themes presented in an outspoken, funny and provocative manner.
As the director says himself it’s enough for the film to be pitched just in 6 words “Black man infiltrates Ku Klux Klan”, that does speak volumes, doesn’t it? 😊
Borrowing some of the top film critics’ parlance the film can be described as:
“...an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years. It's a Spike Lee joint that is not to be missed”
“…a compelling black empowerment story and an electrifying commentary on the problems of African-American representation across more than a century of cinema”
“…a sobering, affecting commentary on right now, yet it's also a thrilling celebration of real brotherhood - and not one of hate”
“…one of the best films of the year. A cinema giant has found his voice again and the power to make it heard”
“…one of his most flat-out entertaining films in years, and also one of his most uncompromising”
And I particularly like the following quote, so metaphorically commenting on the film:
“It (re the story of the protagonist) was history written with lightning. BlaKkKlansman is a deafening roll of the thunder we've been waiting for ever since”
As usual I’m impatiently looking forward to meeting you all, and as usual after the screening the evening can easily continue if we wish to go to a local café to either discuss the film, casually shoot the breeze or both😊
