Stereotypes and Biases are (always) bad?

Becoming aware of our cognitive biases and understanding how they impact our thinking can help us to recognize the limits of our decision-making and potentially harmful behavior.
Psychologists once believed that only bigoted people used stereotypes. Now the study of unconscious bias is revealing the unsettling truth: We all use stereotypes, all the time, without knowing it. We have met the enemy of equality, and the enemy is us.
What is the difference between bias and stereotype?
Are they inherently bad or they might be somehow useful in a context of inconsistent, confusing information and dispersed.
