This update changes the accommodations in Eğirdir. We have made reservations at the Yeşilada Big Fish Pansiyon.

Total costs per person are 65TL for Pansiyon and breakfast plus 100TL for transportation (estimate - will not be more).

This update changes the maximum number of participants to 4 to account for guests and the space limitations in the van.

We are now at capacity for the VW Caravelle Van. This means two things:

Protected content you haven't signed up and want to attend, please send a note to Bill Sheppard. I will maintain a wait list in the order that I receive requests and let you know if there are any cancellations.

(2) If you are attending, please be advised that a VW Caravelle Van has very limited luggage space. In order to maximize the number of participants, we need to each minimize the luggage that we take. Please try to limit yourself to what you can fit in a backpack.

After several inputs regarding the length of the drive Protected content , we have decided to rent a VW Caravelle van for the trip. With backpacks and other gear, this limits the number of travelers to 8, which means we will limit the sign-ups to 5 because some are bringing guests.

We plan to stay in the Choo Choo pension, which is on the "island" at Eğirdir. This means the costs should be:

Transportation - estimated at 100TL per person
Accommodations (incl breakfast Protected content per person
Meals and shopping - other than Sunday morning breakfast

Please plan to confirm by Friday, 18 August, as we need to plan seating in the van and rooms in the pension.

As we agreed, we are alternating same-day hikes near to Ankara with overnight trips further away. Our August trip will be to Eğirdir Lake, the fourth largest lake in Turkey!

We will leave early Protected content Saturday morning so that we can make the 5 hour drive and have time to get in a hike on Saturday afternoon. Based on my scouting trip, we should be able to make a 5km uphill hike to a restaurant with a beautiful view of the lake and mountains.

On Sunday morning, we will have time to visit Kovada National Park and make a short but slightly more challenging hike around Kovada Lake. Hopefully, the skies won't open up and soak us like they did to me during my scouting trip. At the end of this 3km hike around the lake, there is another nice snack bar for us to grab a quick lunch before heading back to Ankara.

I will provide more details once we decide how to plan transportation. We may decide to hire a mini-bus for this trip. If so, I will determine the price, and we can pack a brunch for the trip down.

Best to all,
