[ASIA Zoom] Korean Screen-Capitalism in China (in English)
*** PLEASE NOTE THAT THE ZOOM LINK WILL BE PROVIDED UPON REGISTRATION (NOT THE ZOOM LINK PROVIDED BY INTERNATIONS ABOVE).
[ASIA Zoom] is a series of events focusing on Asia and Asian cultures, starting in the week leading up to the Lunar New Year, February Protected content .
"The cultural phenomenon known as Korean Wave (Hallyu) has flourished in the Chinese mainland since the Protected content , both officially and unofficially, despite looming political conflicts and cultural boycotts. This project theorizes South Korean screen culture’s transnationality through the concept of "screen-capitalism"—a system of visual relations that foregrounds the negotiation of boundaries via affective and sensory co-experiences.
This talk will show how Korean screen media has been transplanted into different cultural, ideological, and linguistic communities in China".
Speaker: Dr. Tian Li, Korea Foundation-Korea Institute Postdoctoral Fellow, Korea Institute, Harvard University (Ph.D. in East Asian Studies from the University of California, Irvine)
