Oldonyo Sabuk national park-hike
The Oldonyo Sabuk national park is located about 85km north-east of Nairobi in Machakos district of Eastern province. The ecosystem constitutes a mountain which is entirely covered with dense montane forest except for a small area at the top. On the way to the gate, you pass through beautiful pineapple plantation.
The hike is guided by armed rangers for safety as the mountain is dominated by Buffalo. Other wildlife include bushbuck, leopard, olive baboon, colobus monkey, vervet monkey, Sykes' monkey, Kirk's dik-dik, bush pig, common duiker, reedbuck, rock hyrax, bush-baby, tree and ground squirrel, aardvark, porcupine, mongoose, python and monitor lizard. The park is home to 45 species of birds.
This is a hard hike that takes Protected content (depending with your pace) good fitness is required. The distance from start to end is about 21km. Enjoy the great views as you trek up as there is no view at the end due to trees coverage.
