Let’s Visit a Forest
Come and join us for a day trip to visit the the oldest conservation area in East Africa, Menagesha Suba Forest which has been protected by imperial decree since the mid 15th Century. At Protected content , it represents the largest remaining patch of indigenous forest in the Addis Ababa area, and as such is an excellent spot for walking, birding and wildlife spotting. You may see forest mammals such as guereza monkeys and the endemic Menelik's Bushbuck and birds such as the Ethiopian oriole, yellow-fronted parrot, black-winged lovebird, banded barbet, Abyssinian woodpecker and Abyssinian catbird.
We will leave Protected content and head west to Ambo Road west of Addis Ababa for around 41km. En route we will visit the Born free Foundation Born Free, an organisation from the United Kingdom dedicated to caring and rehabilitating injured and orphaned animals where you can see Lions, Cheetah and Baboons which have been rescued.
On arrival at the forest entrance, we will pay the entrance fee and start hiking to see the indigenous trees and the bird land wildlife and enjoy a picnic lunch. (There is no restaurant in the forest) For those who don’t want to hike you can relax at the park entrance and take short walks amongst the trees - bring something to sit n.
The price for the trip is Protected content which includes return transport in a coaster bus, water, tour guide, picnic lunch consisting of sandwiches, snacks and fruit, some soft drinks and beer. The price does not include the entrance fee to the forest which is 50 birr for foreigners with residence card or Protected content and 20 for Ethiopians. Entrance to Born Free is by donation
