1821 - The Formation of Modern Greece - Part 1

In the spring of Protected content , the Greek population of the Ottoman Empire revolted against their masters. In a few weeks, over twenty thousand Turkish men, women and children were murdered in the Morea. In reprisal, Greek communities across the empire as far away as Asia Minor were ruthlessly put to death.
The public in Europe was horrified by reports that reached them from Greece. For many, the Greek struggle represented the clash between the civilized world and barbarism, between Christianity and Islam. But in fact, Protected content more significant. The Greek Revolution was the first crack in the once mighty Ottoman Empire. It opened the way for the creation of the first of the new nation states of Europe.
