Concert "Ryukyu: Echoes from Okinawa Archipelago"
Located next to the Tropic of Cancer, along a coral reef that separates the Pacific Ocean from the East China Sea, there is an archipelago that legends refer to as "The Land of the Immortals": the Ryukyu archipelago. These islands are today more often called with the name “Okinawa” but they have not ceased to amaze visitors with the natural beauty, the richness of traditions and the lively longevity and hospitality of its inhabitants.
There are numerous artistic traditions that were born at the court of the kings who ruled the peaceful and happy people of these legendary islands and, among these, music, dance, theater and that of painting kimonos with the ancient technique called bingata.
In this concert some of the most beautiful music of the Ryukyu tradition are reinterpreted in a contemporary way by artists from Okinawa itself (soprano Rieko Ōnaka and pianist Sugiko Chinen) together with Italian musicians (flutist Anna Grazia Anzelmo and pianist Luca A.M. Colombo ) who will wear the precious bingata kimono of Master Sadao Chinen for the occasion. The concert includes pieces for four-handed piano, voice and piano and flute and piano in an extremely interesting and absolutely unique program!
