Have you ever traveled by steam powered train? No! Then now is your chance.
The Feistritztalbahn is over Protected content old and was opened on 15 December Protected content . It's Austria's only local railway built without state support. The route is 24 kilometers long and was built by workers from Turkey, Italy and Slovenia in just 27 months, as well as 4 stations, 3 tunnels and 9 viaducts. The Grub Viaduct is the biggest and longest on the whole trip. It is 275m long, has 13 arches and is also the first viaduct of the k. And k. Monarchy built entirely of concrete. Soon after the Grub Viaduct, the next stretch of track is already waiting: the Hart-Puch Tunnel is the longest of the route with 222m. Then follows a downhill trail past Schloss Külml and the Feistritz Viaduct.

We begin our journey in Weiz where we depart on the steam train at 11:05am and arriving in Birkfeld at 12:47. After alighting the train we hop on board a tractor train and drive a short distance to the Felber Chocolate Manufacture - Yes another chocolate factory in Austria!!!

Felber chocolate factory is run by the same family that runs the local bakery which has been in operation since Protected content ! Check out their website Protected content for more information. We'll do a 1 hour tour and hopefully some chocolate tasting!

After our bellies are full of chocolate, cake and/or bread we'll head back towards the railway station to Schloss Birkenstein and visit the Klang Tunnel exhibition. During the course of the exhibition KLANGTUNNEL the ear, noise, sound, music and spatial acoustics can be explored optically, acoustically, and also experimentally. Check out the website Protected content for more information.

We need to be back at the Birkfeld Feistritztalbahn to depart at 16:00 and return to Weiz at 17:27.

Getting there!
Getting to Weiz will be under your own steam! Pardon the pun! You go by train from Graz or drive. Anyone willing to drive and has room for some others please let me know so we can organise car pooling.
