Hey guys, some of us planning to start the Carnival Thursday celebrations the traditional way in the morning. It is arguably the most famous day of carnival among young people and singles.
I am not sure if you all are familiar with the concept of 'Weiberfastnacht' (Women’s Fasching) celebrations on Thursday, so here is a short overview: It’s the start of the carnival, when women get dressed up in costumes, gather at the City hall in the morning. They symbolically take over the city hall by storming it and capturing the Mayer. Among other established customs, on this day women cut off the ties of men, which are seen as a symbol of men's status. Men wear the left-over of the tie for the rest of the day and get a Bützchen (little kiss) as compensation. There is a stage in the city center, where city organizes various events and all the bars in old town have their own events starting as early as 8 am in the morning. The entire old town looks like a big party event. Most of the women and men roam around the old town in separate groups, drinking, flirting and partying. It rather fun to see local German population relax and enjoy this day, IMO. So, it’s highly recommended, if you haven’t experienced it before.
We are planning on meeting around 10am dressed in carnival get-ups, attend the main ceremony at the city hall, hang around the old town afterwards.
Be there on time, since it will be hard to find each other afterwards.
