Guided Tour of Nero's Golden House- in English
The Domus Aurea was a vast landscaped palace built by the Emperor Nero in the heart of ancient Rome after the great fire in 64 AD had destroyed a large part of the city and the aristocratic villas on the Palatine Hill. After Nero's death the Golden House- built as a place of entertainment and extravagantly decorated with frescoes, mosaics, precious stones and gold leaf- became a severe embarrassment to his successors and was rapidly stripped of its finery.
See it as it once was during this guided tour of the Domus Aurea site- an outstanding example of how modern technology can be used to bring history back to life, recreating the extravagance and finery through the use of 3D visors, video mapping and virtual reality.
