Underwater visit to the ancient city of Baia
In Roman times, Baia was a wealthy resort with a reputation for hedonism, favoured by the super-rich - Julius Cesar, Nero and Hadrian all had villas here.
Today most of Baia is underwater, due to a volcanic phenomena which caused the land in this area to rise or fall, and it is a protected marine park which can be visited by divers (or in a glass-bottomed boat, but where's the fun in that???).
- you DO NOT need previous diving experience to take part in this event.
- you DO need to pay the diving fee and equipment hire fee in advance. Protected content
When we arrive in Pozzuoli, we will visit the ruins there (the €4 ticket covers Pozzuoli and Baia), including Italy's 3rd largest amphitheatre. We will take the train further down the coast and visit the part of Baiae that is still above ground before lunch. Then in the afternoon, we will go to the diving school and meet the instructors.
If you prefer, you can come later and meet us directly at the diving school.
You need to tell me in advance if you are a certified diver or not because it affects the booking and the price.
***For CERTIFIED DIVERS the cost is €35 dive fee per site + €20 equipment hire.
***If you are not certified, the cost is €50 dive fee + €20 equipment hire.
The dive experience should take around 3hrs, from 14.30 to 17.30.
Afterwards you can decide if you want to return to Rome or stay overnight.
