Tarquinia Adventure - discover the ancient Etruscans
For those of us who have to stay in Rome and work this summer, let's take the opportunity to discover some of the places near Rome at the weekends.
This time we will be going to the town of Tarquinia to visit the famous painted Etruscan tombs. Although the tombs are not as impressive as the ones we visited in Cerveteri, the paintings that adorn them are the finest surviving examples of Etruscan paintings in existence.
We will meet at Protected content and arrive in Tarquinia at about 11.30, leaving us time to look round the town and have lunch before taking the shuttle bus to the museum. In the afternoon, we will meet with a private guide who will show us around the tombs before heading back into Rome in the early evening.
The regional train is €7 each way, plus another €1 each way for the bus from the station to the town. The shuttle bus from the town to the site is free, though it doesn't have a timetable! It leaves every Protected content , so we may have to wait patiently.
If you are coming by car or prefer to take a later train, meet us in front of the museum at 13.50.
