Dear Explorers,
In January, we invite you to explore "Washington Black" novel by Esi Edugyan.

The story is set in Protected content & follows the early life of George Washington "Wash" Black, who was born into slavery on Barbados. He becomes a manservant of Christopher "Titch" Wilde, a naturalist, explorer, inventor & abolitionist. And... "Here Edugyan transforms “Washington Black” from a Grand Guignol of slavery’s horrors into a lush, exhilarating travelogue reminiscent of Jules Verne, full of improbable events and encounters but with a splinter lodged in its heart." (The New Yorker review)

"From the blistering cane fields of the Caribbean to the frozen Far North, from the earliest aquariums of London to the eerie deserts of Morocco, Washington Black tells a story of self-invention & betrayal, of love & redemption, of a world destroyed & made whole again, and asks the question, What is true freedom?"

The novel was shortlisted for Man Booker International Prize in Protected content many other literary nominations & awards) & put by Barack Obama on the list of his favourite books of Protected content .

Sounds interesting? Let's read it & discuss it together on Zoom.

Best regards,
Gosia & Ania
