Poets Laureate [Virtual]

Have you ever thought much about the US Poet Laureate? (Did you even know there was one?) While the title has periodically changed, there has been a national poet laureate (or similar) in the US since Protected content !
Let’s take a look together at the role and those who have filled it. As a starting point, you can find an article from the Library of Congress here: Protected content
Wikipedia also provides some background together with a list of all the poets who have had the honor of filling the role: Protected content
Here are some questions in my mind:
*Does having a poet laureate impact our literary lives at all?
*Have you ever read anything written by a US Poet Laureate?
*Are the US Poets Laureate representative of our society?
*What more could a poet laureate do to further promote the appreciation of poetry?
Bring your own questions, experiences, and/or sample work of the current or past poets laureate, and come prepared for an interesting discussion and a good time!
